Blame Canada!

Cool new software, along with some gratuitous Canada bashing! Too funny...

An Evening with SFU DDP Cohort 1 (minus 4, plus friend)

It's been a while since any of us hung out. I took this chance to take some photos and update this stupid blog (oops, not stupid, my bad...erm... i mean ... DDP ROCKS! ...). Mark is a gangster.

DDP Gathering

Today we had a meetup for the Canadian cohort 1 students. We went to eat at Guu in Richmond, and then went for BBT and Karaoke afterwards. It was lots of fun. Reverse FML.

歌词

A nice old song by a nice old Canadian about nice old China

"TAI SHAN"
Words by Neil Peart

High on the sacred mountain
Up the seven thousand stairs
In the golden light of autumn
There was magic in the air

Clouds surrounded the summit
The wind blew strong and cold
Among the silent temples
And the writing carved in gold
Somewhere in my instincts
The primitive took hold...

I stood at the top of the mountain
And China sang to me
In the peaceful haze of harvest time
A song of eternity --

If you raise your hands to heaven
You will live a hundred years
I stood there like a mystic
Lost in the atmosphere

The clouds were suddenly parted
For a moment I could see
The patterns of the landscape
Reaching to the eastern sea
I looked upon a presence
Spanning forty centuries...

I thought of time and distance
The hardships of history
I heard the hope and the hunger
When China sang to me...

Fog Lake

While some structures at SFU campus have been compared to prisons (aka the library), the view from Burnaby Mountain sometimes makes it look like you're in heaven. These past weeks, there's been a lot of low-pressure fog in Vancouver. While you can't see 10 meters past yourself down there, you can see the blue skies up at SFU. The result? Fog Lake.

Gorgeous, isn't it? I hope those of you who are here managed to enjoy the view. It's especially ethereal during sunsets.

These pictures were taken of the north view from the West Mall Complex. Thanks to Devan for taking these pictures!
